(G)oogle Themed Saree

You may be surprised to read the title of the post. What is Google doing with Saree, the most popular female garment in south-east Asia. Oogle is a designer Saree launched by SatyaPaul. This time for designing a Google inspired saree called Ooogle/Oogle. They call this sari “Oogle” (replacing the “G” in the Google logo with “O”) maybe to prevent any trademark issues with the search company.

Satya Paul has been known to be inspired by nature, people, and beautiful things around him. Oogle is georgette jacquard printed sari along with unstitched blouse piece attached. Its price is USD. 299.88 (Rs. 11,995.00). This Saree looks like a Saree made up of the Google web search results. If you look closely at the design, the URL in the browser address field is shop.satyapaul.com, this is internet address of the Satya Paul online store. This is no doubt, a great idea to associate the search engine internet giant with Saree.

Satya Paul which started in 1985 is now known globally for its excellence in design. The look is a strong interplay of patterns and color that the New York Times has hailed as works of Kinetic Art. They have re-invented the traditional sari as a modern classic, the Satya Paul product line also comprises of fusion and western clothing including scarves, bags, men’s accessories and fabrics and an entire range of classic bridal wear.

In these pictures, the model wearing the Oogle Saree is Aditi Gowitrikar, a Mrs. World of 2001. This Saree was available in some malls in Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore. Don’t expect women in India to wear these Google sarees but it may be a good attire for booth girls in trade-shows where the saree print may show Google search results for the company/brand they are promoting – its like AdSense for Clothing.

Yoga Dogs | for 2010 Calendar

Yoga Dogs 2010 Calendar — This wall calendar gives new meaning to “Downward Facing Dog”. The Yoga Dogs calendar hosts a year full of images showing popular dog breeds positioned in classic yoga postures with the help of digital technology. These reworked dog portraits will bend your mind and delight you. You’ve never seen a Standard Poodle in Tree pose? Or a Golden Retriever really nailing Warrior II? The time is now, young yogi. The time is here to laugh and be inspired. After all, if a Pug can hold Lotus pose, so can you! Nama-Sit. Nama-Stay. Apparently, those canine models were never in distress, the creators of the calendar tried to get the dogs as close as they could with yoga moves and then, they used Photoshop to finish the work. It’s really weird, but it’s funny at the same time…It’s even more weird than the Rock Calendar with dogs!

Photography by Dan Borris - As you may have guessed, these photos are fake, there are few people who can execute these yoga moves and I’m pretty sure no dogs can do them. They’ve been “photoshoped” by Dan Borris, a skilled Photoshop expert from Texas, who was inspired by his wife’s, Alexandra, former yoga teaching career. This funny dog calendar is bound to be a hit amongst dog lovers.

Boob Nation: Pumping at Work Sucks

Like to breastfeed? Think it's the best thing ever? Enjoy hunkering down in a bathroom stall while balancing machinery on your knees? Have I got an activity for you! Pack up your fridge baggies, your Pump-in-Style, and your nursing shields and head into work for a few hours (7-10 is best). While there, take a break every 2-3 hours to excuse yourself to the ladies...whip out your ladies, hook yourself up and voila! You too can experience the fulfillment of pumping at work.

Salon interviewed the authors of "Milk Memos: How Real Moms Learned to Mix Babies and Business and How You Can Too." In this case, "business and babies" means "business and breast-pumping" and the writers offer up tips such as "juggling a career, breast-feeding, family and all of life's other demands is possible (but not always easy or graceful)" and are quite persuasive on the need for companies to provide a clean safe place for women to pump, but I still don't buy it for a second.

I agree with the authors that more workplace support for breastfeeding and more honest discussions such as "excuse me, I need to go express milk” would go a long way to making the whole enterprise less stressful. But I’m sorry, it just doesn’t cut it. Lactating at work is a pain … an insufferable, inconvenient production that unless you have a private office with a lock and sufficient maternity leave (more than the paltry 6 weeks usually allotted) no amount of company support is going to alleviate. Without sufficient maternity leave to get things sorted with baby and caregiver and hormones, a nice clean room is completely insufficient to the task. No wonder most women in this country only breastfeed for 7 weeks. To do otherwise is a feat of super human strength and determination.
